It has been quite some time since we’ve updated the weblog. We have spent the last month ‘hiding out’ here in our Little House on the Prairie. When we first came home it was difficult to figure out a schedule with Luke and Jack. Luke had so much medication, he couldn’t handle loud noises or sudden changes, he couldn’t sleep well or he slept whole days, and so on. But as time went on Luke became calmer and happier. There are still times that Luke has very bad days, where he screams and cries, where he is basically awake the whole night, but these days are becoming scarcer.
Physically Luke is also becoming stronger. He can now lie on his tummy quite well and hold his head up to look around. He likes to ‘fight’ with daddy and grabs you and growls into your shoulder. He, unfortunately, also likes to pull his feeding tube out. At the moment he wears socks over his hands to try to prevent that. Mommy has learned how to put the feeding tube in herself rather than call the home-care nurses every time. Luke likes eating, especially yoghurt is his favourite, but he can’t drink from a bottle anymore. We’re trying to learn how to drink from a sippy-cup, but for now he still gets all his milk through is feeding tube.
Jack seems to learn something new everyday. He rolls and slides across the floor. He hasn’t quite figured crawling out yet, although he does tuck his knees under himself. Nothing is safe anymore with him around. He’s very jolly and happy, loves to eat and play, and mostly loves to cuddle and kiss. Jack and Luke just started laughing at each other this week for the first time. Luke is also very jolly and friendly, always smiling.
The best part of your day is when you go into their room in the morning and two little faces are laughing up at you as if their very favourite person just walked into the room. And the second favourite part of my day is when you go into their room in the evening and they’re both sound asleep, Jack on his side, one arm around his doggy and Luke on his back, both hands holding onto his doggy’s feet.
It’s been a wonderful summer at home, alone, just the four of us. Hugo has gone back to work today. We are so blessed to have such a happy family. And the recovery that Luke has made so far with his ‘half a heart’ is just amazing. We are very thankful.

In this picture Luke had pulled out his feeding tube. Before putting it back in, we let them play together. They thought it was wonderful...until Jack bit Luke!
