Tomorrow will be a week since we moved back home with Luke. The past days have been a whirlwind of activity. Every day since Luke has been home we have seen him become calmer and happier. However, he also started to vomit and gag after every feeding. We were very concerned and called the hospital over the weekend and again on Monday. We also had nurses in the house to watch Luke and advise. There was even the suggestion that he might have to be admitted into the hospital again. But just when things were at their worst, Luke had a good morning with Hugo and so Hugo decided to offer him a bottle. He drank 50 ml in about 3 minutes! After that he was absolutely soaking wet. He soon fell asleep. We noticed that whenever he drank he sweat a lot and then fell asleep. Tuesday he basically slept all day and night. Now we offer him the bottle only once or twice a day. Fruit is also heavy for him, yesterday he vomitted that out too. But basically his gagging seems to be over.
We went to the cardiologist today. She is pleased with his heart and does not need to see him back for 2 months. We just have to make sure he gains weight. Not an easy task for a little boy who can't handle food and doesn't always want to eat!
Luke gets fed every 3 hours, 7 times a day. The most of his feedings are done through his feeding tube. We have a pump in the house which we can hook a bottle to to feed him automatically, but we find that this takes even more time than doing it by hand. We do have to be sure that we take enough time for his feedings or he will vomit or gag. With him and with Jack, we are kept very busy. I'm sure once we have more of a routine things will calm down for us.
But just to be clear, we are so thankful to be home. I still sometimes pinch myself just to be sure its true. We are home with two boys...

PS: He only has 2 teeth. The other white spots are a shadow on his bottom lip.

En wat geweldig dat het steeds een beetje beter met hem gaat.

Wat een vrolijke jongen toch die Luke, en niet te vergeten Jack. Prachtig wat ziet hij er gezond en stralend uit ouders:) Ik ben zo blij en dankbaar met en voor jullie.. ik zal blijven bidden, blijven aanhouden. Want alleen op het gebed doet de Heere grote grote wonderen. Vertrouw maar op Hem, in alles wat Hij doet,, Hij zorgt voor jullie. Houdt dat vast.
Geniet heerlijk van jullie twee jongens en kom tot rust. Maar dat komt goed:)

Hey Andrea and Hugo.
Glad to hear that you are all home and doing well, considering everything and everyone involved. Just hope that you will once again find your routine and get enough sleep to keep up with the whole process.
Still thinking about you guys alot, you guys are sure touch, having gone through what you have, we cannot imagine what it is like. Wow!!

Hoi Andrea,
Wat goed om te horen dat julie thuis zijn. En dat het met de boys goed gaat.
Inderdaad een pracht foto, wat een schatje.
Die foto dat ze met z'n tweetjes liggen vind ik ook héél mooi.
Ik wens jullie het allerbeste en wie weet komen we elkaar nog een keer tegen. We spreken nog af met de meiden van de yoga en dat vind je misschien ook wel leuk.
